Cool name - where did that come from?
The idea came from a clothing range from the seemingly now defunct 'sons not dogs' people who were real helpful to us about the name - for which we thank them!! The name was used because we want to provide youth work resources that are Biblical, that bite and that are real.
Can I submit content?
At the moment we are keeping tight editorial control over the site - so not at the moment - due to common sense and copyright issues. Individuals we know and work with do submit content, however. Let us know by using the contact page if you feel you have good content. All authors are credited with ideas where possible. We want to honour people and God by giving credit where it's due.
Do you do a free newsletter to keep me up-to-date?
Yes! We've signed up to a free mailing list provider (www.zinester.com) so we can provide you with a monthly newsletter called 'Myfishbites Fresh Bites'. To join the free mailing list - click here - or on the 'newsletter' link on any page.
Compatibility
We are committed to making these web pages work on as many browsers on as many operating systems as posible and go to great lengths to make sure this happens. However, despite our best efforts, as technology develops, glitches can and do happen. We constantly test and check the pages, so if you are experiencing problems please let us know and bear with us as we attempt to fix the problems.
Known recent issues:
If you are a PC user, browsing the internet with Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5 or later, you may have had problems viewing the Apple Quicktime movies. This was due to the way that Microsoft changed the way Internet Explorer handles certain kinds of pages. This fault has now been sorted, as has the javscript error on pop up windows. If you are still having problems then please let me know. If quicktime isn't appearing properly, you may need to update your Quicktime Player or get the fix Apple has provided.
Do you use Internet Explorer for the Mac under OSX? If you do, let me know if the page headers display properly. There appears to be a problem with the 'search' box appearing top left and not top right. The javascript error meaning pop up windows not working (under Mac IE for OSX only) has also now ben fixed.
Validation
This site has been validated by the World Wide Web Consortium for both code and cascading style sheets.

If you want to do your own website, make sure you include a DOCTYPE reference which tells the browser (also called a 'user agent') how to display the web page. Failure to include a DOCTYPE in the future will produce problems when viewing the web page. Click Here.
This site has been checked and is fully functional in IE 5, 5.5 and IE6 for PC. This also works under Mac OSX using Safari, Mozilla Firefox and IE5. It also works under Mac OS9 in IE. The site has not been tested in Mozilla for PC, Netscape or Opera.
If this site does not work with your browser then I strongly suggest you upgrade your browser. Check computer magazine CDs for more or go to your favourite browser site to get the latest version.
Internet Explorer is an especially buggy piece of software. I would advise using another browser such as Mozilla Firefox.
If the problem persists then please contact the webmaster stating when you used the site, which browser you were using the exact version if you can. You get this info from the top menu of the browser menu (eg. Safari > About Safari) or on the PC it's found under the top 'help' menu.
Screen Resolution
This site is designed so it can be used even on 15" monitors set to low resolutions. We make every effort to make this site as easy to view as possible. The site is best viewed at a resolution of at least 800x640 but preferably 1024x768 or 1280x1024. It can run on smaller resolutions such as 640x480 but you may notice some text overlap on the top and footer menus.
Your other needs for full use of this site
If you want to make the most of this site then you will need to have the following items:
Adobe Reader (to read pdf files)
Microsoft Word (or other programme that can read doc files)
Microsoft Powerpoint may be helpful (or Powerpoint viewer - PC only)
Coding used on this site
This site has been updated to make use of code called 'php' which is a 'server side' code used on some web pages. On the old website there was a code used called 'html'. However, when we needed to update a section we had to update the code on each page which was inefficient.
PHP means that now the page menus are 'called into' the page you see from a separate file. 'Server side' means that a PHP sits on the server that hosts this website and when you visit a page on it, the page accesses the PHP page sitting on the server. When you see the page you would not know this but it's very helpful for us to update and develop.
For more on PHP go visit these 2 sites - www.php.net and www.phpfreaks.com
Javascript is also used - a clever code that does clever things! This makes the menu rollover effects and helps us keep the site easy to maintain. We will also be using dhtml and xml in the future.
G5 Apple Mac
Proudly created using a G5 Apple Mac - why not consider making the change ![]()
1. Macs don't require endless major security downloads, patches and fixes like Windows
2. Macs don't have this problem with spyware, adware embedding hidden code on your PC that could give someone access to your personal information and passwords.
3. Viruses bugging you out? Get a Mac. Virsues are virtually unknown. Though I do run anti-virus software.
4. But Macs don't have the same software.. Yes they do - Office, Adobe, you name it. And you can easily transfer files with other PC and Mac users. All the major software is available. Some games aren't but hey!
5. Macs come installed with the most intelligent, secure and aesthetically pleasing operating system, OSX - light years ahead of Windows.
6. Your PC has crashed. Again. Yet we've got a Mac from the 80s that still works!!
7. Fed up with that ugly, grey, dull, boring, plain box on your desk? Get a Mac. Check the new iMac.
8. But Macs are difficult to use.. Not true. It's far more accessible and user friendly than the complex dinsoaur that is Windows. You can get your iMac online in just 6 easy stages. Simple.
Software and technology used
The site has been developed using an Apple Mac G5 using Macromedia Studio MX 2004 and the Adobe Creative Suite Premium. To put the info onto the web (FTP/SFTP), we have used Cyberduck. The website currently uses www.godsweb.co.uk as the host, great features at unparalleled prices. They've been a helpful, reliable and excellent Christian company to deal with - highly recommended.
I also used the free code from http://www.mways.co.uk/prog/hidemail.php
WAP and PDA
This site is not fully compatible with WAP (mobile phones) and PDAs at the moment. I do not expect this to happen yet - as the technology is still developing and the specifications are not yet set.
Disability
We hope that this site is easy to navigate and use. We have made every effort to re-design the site to make it more easy to read than before where it was white text on a bluey background. We have also made Verdana the main typeface as it is a little larger and clearer than Arial. We hope this has helped. At the moment there are no plans to make this site accessible directly by speech enabled software.
If you have a Mac it is possible to get the Mac to speak a limited amount of text by going to System Preferences > Speech and using the options there. Mac OSX includes 'VoiceOver' for free - making the operating system friendly for those with visual impairment. Click here for more info about that...
Search Engine
The search facility is provided free of charge by freefind.com and you should type in a word that you are looking for and it will bring up pages containing that word or theme, if contained in the site.
