Choices

Introduction

Good (insert time of day here i.e. morning, afternoon, evening etc..) today we are looking at your assembly theme of choices. A little bit later on we’ll be looking at the story of some people that Jesus helped but first….

Game

Get a volunteer up and they can feel inside 3 boxes and they have to choose one of the things to eat, before they see it.  Blindfolded

Things to be in the boxes:

  • Cut up banana
  • Sprouts
  • raisins

Development

The point of that game is just to demonstrate that we have choices to make some of the choices will be nice choices like choosing the raisins and sometimes we get choices that aren’t very nice like choosing the sprouts which isn’t a very nice choice to make. Now we’re going to see a drama about some people in the bible that had leprosy that’s a skin disease which isn’t very nice and it meant that they were excluded from everything in society. See if you can see what choices they made.

Read

Story of lepers that were healed, but only one went back to say thank you to Jesus. Luke 17.11-18:

Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!" When he saw them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" Then he said to him, "Rise and go; your faith has made you well."

End

In the reading, the man who had been healed made the choice to go back to Jesus and say thank you, he didn’t have to do that but that was his choice.  In our lives there are lots of things that keep changing sometimes it’s cos we choice to let them change and sometimes we don’t get a choice they change anyway, but Christians believe that Jesus is going to be the same all the time in the bible it says that Jesus is the same yesterday today and forever. Have a look at this powerpoint which has a song from the charts in the background and tals about the changes in our lives.

Reflection and prayer

This is a time for you to think about some of the things that you can make choices about  maybe its trying harder to choose to say please and thank you or maybe choosing to help out around the house a bit. Or you can pray with me

Dear God thank you for being the same all the time and that we know when we talk to you, you will always be the same.

Amen.
