Do The Impossible!

When some people think of church or Christians, they think of a bunch of boring, irrelevant people. They think of those TV services where the only things that happen are so dull they would send most people to sleep!

That is not the kind of church that I belong to and it’s not the kind of church that Jesus created !

Here is a statement that you need to remember and then to live out…

You were designed to do the impossible! #designedfortheimpossible

In the book called ‘Experience the Impossible’ by Bill Johnson, he writes that it’s great when we give our natural talents and resources to see things done for God. But it’s tragic when the doing of things that are humanly possible becomes the end point of our faith. The reason is that anyone or any organisation can do practical things – like giving money, building things and helping people. But God has called us to something more. He’s called us to do these things – plus…

“The plus is the impossible”

Bill Johnson goes on to write this,

“Jesus was extremely practical. But being practical for Him is different from being practical for us. Our idea of practical is training seeing-eye dogs to help the blind. Jesus’ idea of practical was healing the blind… His assignment is our assignment… Jesus’ commission was to invade the impossible.”

Across the world and across our churches in the UK, every week people are being healed of sickness, diseases, having miraculous things happen. This is the seemingly impossible life that God calls us to. But with God, this kind of life is the normal Christian life.

How do you feel about this? Does it feel exciting or scary – or both?!

Do you know of any true stories about God’s miraculous power or healing stories? Tell the story to other people to encourage them and help them see what’s possible with God.

Healing Stories and Videos on God and the Impossible

If you look on YouTube you’ll see lots of videos about some amazing stories of God’s power healing people, setting them free, meeting with them in impossible situations. Maybe find some of these and show them.

There are some from New Wine (as one example) on their YouTube channel. Or there’s a story on the New Wine website – https://stories.new-wine.org/im-not-leaving-until-you-do-something-7d5cb777e2b0 (link checked / updated July 2019)

Andrew Womack Ministries has a bunch of different testimonies – https://www.awmi.net/video/series/healing-journeys/ (link checked / updated April 2019)

Nicky Gumble (Pastor at HTB, London and creator of the Alpha Course) has a 32min talk on this – https://www.htb.org/sunday-talks-archive/2017-01-22/nothing-is-impossible-with-god?rq=nothing%20impossible (link checked / updated April 2019)

God says… (from the Bible)

Genesis 18:14 – Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.’

Abraham and Sarah were very old – but God told them that Sarah would have a baby. And she did!

Jeremiah 32:27 – I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?

God spoke to his prophet Jeremiah and told him that God was in charge of world events, reminding Jeremiah that nothing was impossible with God.

Matthew 19.26 – Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Jesus was explaining to his disciples how hard it was to get into heaven. But he went on to explain that man couldn’t do this but that Jesus could. It’s only through Jesus that we can be saved.

Mark 16.20 – Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

Want to know what your mission from God looks like? Mark 16.20 is your answer.

Luke 1.37 – For with God nothing will be impossible.

Mary (who would be the mother of Jesus) was visited by an angel who told her that she would become pregnant, even though she was a virgin. He also explained that her cousin Elizabeth would also be pregnant. Both things happened – as we know!

Matthew 28.18-19 – Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

When Jesus died on the cross and rose again, he defeated death and defeated the enemy. All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Jesus – and he then basically said to his disciples and to us, ‘now go in that name, the name of Jesus and build the kingdom of God.’

Ephesians 1.19-20 – I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honour at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.

Jesus went around doing miracles, healing people, raising the dead, casting out demons and feeding people spiritually and physically. The Bible here tells us that the same power that was in Jesus is the same power that is in us – the Holy Spirit.

The Impossible Is Possible

We see in the Bible and in the life of Christians today through the power of God and prayer that impossible situations are never impossible with God. Sometimes bad things happen and we don’t understand everything…

But God is good and he comes to bring life where there is death, healing where there is disease, hope where there is desperation and light where there is darkness.

The impossible is possible because of God. It is not us but God’s power that makes the impossible happen. The life of Jesus was one where the everyday and the normal was changed. Jesus redefined what normal means. And we’ve got that same power working through us today. We’re not Jesus – he was and is perfect and we’re no way perfect! But we don’t need to worry too much about that because the impossible working power is from God! Our part is simply to say yes and let God use us.

We can pray for people, hear from God for people, pray and see God heal people. We can speak words of life and encouragement to people. We can tell people that God loves them and is good. And we can show God’s love. But we should also demonstrate God’s power.

Romans 15.18-19 – Yet I dare not boast about anything except what Christ has done through me, bringing the Gentiles to God by my message and by the way I worked among them. They were convinced by the power of miraculous signs and wonders and by the power of God’s Spirit. In this way, I have fully presented the Good News of Christ…

Here is the truth of God’s Word – the Gospel is fully preached when we live out God’s Word, speak out God’s Word and see miraculous things, signs and wonders happen. This is the way we fully present the Good News about Jesus. The Gospel includes seeing signs, wonders, miracles, healings.

The enemy has brought death, destruction, hopelessness, hatred, sickness. Jesus brings the opposite of this and this is our incredible calling too !!
